Nuts and seeds consumption is associated with a reduced risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Nuts and seeds contain beneficial components to reduce the risk of CVD and CHD; hence dietary addition may benefit heart health. This systematic review and meta-analysis included sixty studies to analyse the effects of the consumption of nuts and seeds on the incidence of mortality from type 2 diabetes (T2D) and CVD and intermediate cardiometabolic risk factors. High nuts and seed consumption showed a 19% reduction in CVD risk and a 23% reduction in CVD mortality. In addition, high consumption lowered the risk of CHD by 25%. Increased nut consumption up to 30 g/day showed a dose-dependent relationship with reduced risk of CVD. Healthcare professionals can use the results of this study to understand the association between nuts and seeds consumption and CHD, CVD and blood lipid levels. However, further robust studies are required to evaluate the effect of specific nuts and seeds on CHD and CVD risk reduction.
Abstract
OBJECTIVES We aimed to systematically review studies and evaluate the strength of the evidence on nuts/seeds consumption and cardiometabolic diseases and their risk factors among adults. METHODS A protocol was pre-registered in PROSPERO (CRD42021270554). We searched MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials and Scopus up to September 20, 2021 for prospective cohort studies and ≥12-week randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Main outcomes were cardiovascular disease (CVD), coronary heart disease (CHD), stroke and type 2 diabetes (T2D), secondary total-/low density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol, blood pressure and glycaemic markers. Data extraction and risk of bias (RoB) assessments (using RoB 2.0 and RoB-NObS) were performed in duplicate. Effect sizes were pooled using random-effects meta-analyses and expressed as relative risk (RR) or weighted mean differences with 95% confidence intervals (CI); heterogeneity quantified as I 2. One-stage dose-response analyses assessed the linear and non-linear associations with CVD, CHD, stroke and T2D. The strength of evidence was classified per the World Cancer Research Fund criteria. RESULTS After screening 23,244 references, we included 42 papers from cohort studies (28 unique cohorts, 1,890,573 participants) and 18 RCTs (2,266 participants). In the cohorts, mainly populations with low consumption, high versus low total nuts/seeds consumption was inversely associated with total CVD (RR 0.81; 95% CI 0.75, 0.86; I 2 = 67%), CVD mortality (0.77; 0.72, 0.82; I 2 = 59.3%), CHD (0.82; 0.76, 0.89; I 2 = 64%), CHD mortality (0.75; 0.65, 0.87; I 2 = 66.9%) and non-fatal CHD (0.85; 0.75, 0.96; I 2 = 62.2%). According to the non-linear dose-response analyses, consumption of 30 g/day of total nuts/seeds was associated with RRs of similar magnitude. For stroke and T2D the summary RR for high versus low intake was 0.91 (95% CI 0.85, 0.97; I 2 = 24.8%) and 0.95 (0.75, 1.21; I 2 = 82.2%). Intake of nuts (median ~50 g/day) lowered total (-0.15 mmol/L; -0.22, -0.08; I 2 = 31.2%) and LDL-cholesterol (-0.13 mmol/L; -0.21, -0.05; I 2 = 68.6%), but not blood pressure. Findings on fasting glucose, HbA1c and insulin resistance were conflicting. The results were robust to sensitivity and subgroup analyses. We rated the associations between nuts/seeds and both CVD and CHD as probable. There was limited but suggestive evidence for no association with stroke. No conclusion could be made for T2D. CONCLUSION There is a probable relationship between consumption of nuts/seeds and lower risk of CVD, mostly driven by CHD, possibly in part through effects on blood lipids. More research on stroke and T2D may affect the conclusions. The evidence of specific nuts should be further investigated.

A sedentary or physically inactive lifestyle significantly contributes to non-communicable diseases such as coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes and stroke. Wearable activity trackers are low-cost solutions that encourage users to engage in physical activity. This umbrella review of systematic reviews and meta-analyses investigated the benefits of wearable activity trackers in improving physical activity levels and their beneficial effects on physiological and psychosocial outcomes. This umbrella review included thirty-nine systematic reviews, of which twenty-five systematic reviews included meta-analyses of the benefits of wearable trackers on physical activity levels. Results of this umbrella review suggest that wearable trackers increased physical activity levels, especially daily steps count and energy expenditure. The physiological outcomes included improvements in BMI, blood pressure, cholesterol, glycosylated haemoglobin, waist circumference, and body weight. There was also a slight improvement in the quality of life of the participants who used wearable activity trackers. Further robust studies are required to evaluate the effects of wearable trackers on the psychosocial outcomes in people with mental illness. However, healthcare professionals can use the results of this study to understand the impact of wearable trackers on physiological and psychosocial effects in a non-clinical population.
Abstract
Wearable activity trackers offer an appealing, low-cost tool to address physical inactivity. This systematic review of systematic reviews and meta-analyses (umbrella review) aimed to examine the effectiveness of activity trackers for improving physical activity and related physiological and psychosocial outcomes in clinical and non-clinical populations. Seven databases (Embase, MEDLINE, Ovid Emcare, Scopus, SPORTDiscus, the Cochrane Library, and Web of Science) were searched from database inception to April 8, 2021. Systematic reviews of primary studies using activity trackers as interventions and reporting physical activity, physiological, or psychosocial outcomes were eligible for inclusion. In total, 39 systematic reviews and meta-analyses were identified, reporting results from 163 992 participants spanning all age groups, from both healthy and clinical populations. Taken together, the meta-analyses suggested activity trackers improved physical activity (standardised mean difference [SMD] 0·3-0·6), body composition (SMD 0·7-2·0), and fitness (SMD 0·3), equating to approximately 1800 extra steps per day, 40 min per day more walking, and reductions of approximately 1 kg in bodyweight. Effects for other physiological (blood pressure, cholesterol, and glycosylated haemoglobin) and psychosocial (quality of life and pain) outcomes were typically small and often non-significant. Activity trackers appear to be effective at increasing physical activity in a variety of age groups and clinical and non-clinical populations. The benefit is clinically important and is sustained over time. Based on the studies evaluated, there is sufficient evidence to recommend the use of activity trackers.

Moderate consumption of alcohol has been considered as cardioprotective as it may reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases by improving the lipid profile. This systematic review investigated the effects of regular moderate alcohol consumption of up to 60 g/day on lipoprotein subfraction changes and underlying mechanisms. A total of one hundred and fourteen studies were included in this review. The results showed that up to 60 g/day of alcohol intake increased the high-density lipoprotein (HDL) subfractions. Alcohol also increased the cardioprotective effect by increasing the cholesterol efflux capacity and paraoxonase activity in moderate drinkers. Moderate intake may also positively affect the low-density lipoprotein size. Further robust studies are required to investigate the effects of alcohol consumption on LDL subfractions and apoB lipoproteins in people with chronic diseases. Healthcare professionals can use the results of this research to understand the impact of moderate alcohol intake on HDL subfractions and its association with cardiovascular disease.
Abstract
CONTEXT Moderate alcohol consumption is associated with decreased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and improvement in cardiovascular risk markers, including lipoproteins and lipoprotein subfractions. OBJECTIVE To systematically review the relationship between moderate alcohol intake, lipoprotein subfractions, and related mechanisms. DATA SOURCES Following PRISMA, all human and ex vivo studies with an alcohol intake up to 60 g/d were included from 8 databases. DATA EXTRACTION A total of 17 478 studies were screened, and data were extracted from 37 intervention and 77 observational studies. RESULTS Alcohol intake was positively associated with all HDL subfractions. A few studies found lower levels of small LDLs, increased average LDL particle size, and nonlinear relationships to apolipoprotein B-containing lipoproteins. Cholesterol efflux capacity and paraoxonase activity were consistently increased. Several studies had unclear or high risk of bias, and heterogeneous laboratory methods restricted comparability between studies. CONCLUSIONS Up to 60 g/d alcohol can cause changes in lipoprotein subfractions and related mechanisms that could influence cardiovascular health. Dyslipidaemia is a chronic metabolic disorder that is characterized by increased levels of triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and reduced levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). Patients with dyslipidaemia have an increased risk of coronary heart disease, stroke, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, diabetes and even mortality. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Chlorella vulgaris supplementation on lipid profile in adults. This study is a systematic review and meta-analysis of ten randomised controlled trial studies. The studies included a total of 539 individuals (n= 264 in the Chlorella vulgaris group and n= 275 in the control group). Results show that Chlorella vulgaris supplementation resulted in a significant reduction in TC and LDL-C levels, while it had no significant effect on TG and HDL-C levels either in the overall analysis or in the subgroup analysis. Furthermore, the reducing effect of Chlorella vulgaris supplementation on LDL-C levels was significant between zero and 1500 mg/d and it was not significant at higher dosages. Authors conclude that future studies should examine the effect of Chlorella vulgaris supplementation on other biochemical parameters such as glycaemic measures and inflammatory biomarkers.
Abstract
OBJECTIVE To summarize available findings on the effect of Chlorella vulgaris supplementation on lipid profile in adults. DESIGN Systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs). SETTING This study followed 2020 PRISMA guideline. We performed a systematic search in the online databases to identify relevant articles and then, extracted required data from each paper for the meta-analysis. Random-effects models were used to obtain overall mean difference (MD) comparing Chlorella vulgaris supplementation with a control group. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Blood lipids including triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), LDL-C, and HDL-C. RESULTS In total, 10 RCTs with a total sample size of 539 adults (264 in the Chlorella vulgaris group and 275 in the control group) were included. Of the 10 RCTs, four had a low risk of bias for all aspects of the Cochrane risk of bias tool. Also, only two studies determined the chlorella content, purity, potency, and contamination of the supplements used in the intervention. Combining results from these studies showed a summary MD of -2.11 mg/dL (95% CI: -7.28 to 3.06) for TG, -7.47 mg/dL (95% CI: -12.98 to -1.96) for TC, -7.71 mg/dL (95% CI: -14.05 to -1.37) for LDL-C, and -0.45 mg/dL (95% CI: -0.67 to 1.57) for HDL-C, indicating a beneficial effect of Chlorella vulgaris supplementation on TC and LDL-C levels. Based on the dose-response analysis, the reducing effect of Chlorella vulgaris supplementation on LDL-C levels was seen at the dosages between zero and 1500 mg/d (P for non-linearity= 0.01), whereas in higher amounts, this effect was not significant. CONCLUSION We found that Chlorella vulgaris supplementation had a beneficial effect on TC and LDL-C levels with no significant effect on TG and HDL-C levels.

Dyslipidemia is a risk factor for developing cardiovascular disease, which may lead to early death. Capsaicin, a phytochemical found in chilli pepper, may have a cardioprotective effect. Therefore, this systematic review and meta-analysis included eight studies investigating the beneficial effects of capsinoids and fermented red pepper paste (FRPP) on lipid profile. The dosage of FRPP was 11.9 g, and the capsinoid dose varied between 2 to 9 mg/day in the included studies. The intervention duration ranged from three to twelve weeks. Total cholesterol decreased significantly with capsinoids and FRPP intervention. The reduction was greater when the intervention duration was less than 12 weeks, the sample size was more than fifty, and the participants of both sexes were older. FRPP reduced triglyceride and increased high-density lipoprotein. This depended on factors such as intervention duration, age of the participants and sample size. Further robust studies are required due to the high heterogeneity of the included studies. However, healthcare professionals can use the study to understand the beneficial effects of capsinoids and FRPP in reducing total cholesterol.
Abstract
The present systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted in order to investigate the effects of capsinoids and fermented red pepper paste (FRPP) supplementation on lipid profile. Relevant studies were identified by searches of five databases from inception to November 2021 using relevant keywords. All clinical trials investigating the effect of capsinoids and FRPP on total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) were included. Out of 1,203 citations, eight trials that enrolled 393 participants were included. Capsinoids and FRPP resulted in a significant reduction in TC (weighted mean differences [WMD], -9.92 mg/dL; 95% confidence interval [CI], -17.92 to -1.92; p = 0.015) but no significant changes in TG (WMD, -19.38 mg/dL; 95% CI, -39.94 to 1.18; p = 0.065), HDL-C (WMD, 0.83 mg/dL; 95% CI, -0.76 to 2.42; p = 0.305) and LDL-C (WMD, -0.59 mg/dL; 95% CI, -4.96 to 3.79; p = 0.793). Greater effects on TC were detected in trials performed on duration lasting less than twelve weeks, mean age of > 40, both sexes, and sample size of > 50. TG was reduced by using FRPP in studies conducted on mean age of > 40. HDL-C increased by using FRPP in studies conducted on duration of < 12 weeks, mean age of > 40, and sample size of ≤ 50. Overall, these data provided evidence that capsinoids and FRPP supplementation has beneficial effects on TC but not TG, HDL-C, and LDL-C.

At present, the treatment for obesity includes regular physical activity, diet intervention, medication and bariatric surgery. The aim of this study was to summarise the current literature and investigate whether different dietary interventions influence the metabolic indicators of overweight or obesity. This study is a systematic review and meta-analysis of twelve papers, eight of which were of medium quality. The duration of dietary therapy was usually an average of 19 weeks, from 4 weeks to 24 weeks. Dietary interventions included a calorie-restricted diet, a Mediterranean diet, a low-carb diet, a low-fat diet, and a ketogenic diet. Results show that dietary intervention had a significant effect on changes in fasting insulin, fasting glucose and insulin resistance changes in women. Additionally, dietary intervention also had a positive effect on triglycerides, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Authors conclude that obese women should follow dietary interventions to improve their metabolic index. Furthermore, future large-scale randomised controlled trial experiments should be performed on specific diet therapies.
Abstract
OBJECTIVES Dietary therapy may improve glucose and lipid metabolism function in women. However, there is no systematic review to investigate the association between metabolic effects and different dietary interventions in obese women. The main purpose of this study is to summarize the current literature and investigate whether different dietary interventions have an effect on glucose and metabolic indicators of overweight or obese women. METHODS We conducted a scoping review of randomized controlled trial (RCT) studies from 1991 to 2022 by adopting a systematic review and meta-analysis. The database includes Google Scholar, PubMed, Embase and Web of Science. Literature screening, data extraction, and quality assessment were independently completed by 2 researchers. Meta-analysis was performed with RevMan. RESULTS Twelve articles were extracted and the meta-analysis results showed that the mean difference of metabolic indexes of obese women before and after dietary intervention, including fasting glucose, fasting insulin, HOMA-IR (Homeostasis model assessment-insulin resistance), TG (triglyceride), TC (total cholesterol), LDL-C (low-density lipoprotein cholesterol), HDL-C (high-density lipoprotein cholesterol) are -0.13 [-0.15, -0.10], -2.41 [-3.44, -1.38], -0.13 [-0.15, -0.10], -21.71 [-24.19, -19.22], -21.71 [-24.19, -19.22], -13.29 [-17.86, -8.72], 3.31 [2.22, 4.40], respectively. CONCLUSIONS Different dietary interventions benefit glucose and lipid metabolism of overweight or obese women. Further study is needed to determine which specific dietary effects have the greatest effect on improving metabolic indicators.

Modernisation has brought increased comforts and limited mobility in our lives at the cost of an increased prevalence of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidaemia, and obesity, which are predecessors of major cardiovascular diseases. Prevention and control of coronary heart disease and its associated diseases are essential and can be achieved by modifying the lipid profile. The aim of this study was to systematically assess the effects of yoga on blood lipid levels. This study is a systematic review and meta-analysis of fifty-three randomised controlled studies. All studies employed a parallel design with a total of 13,191 participants whom were divided into 6,700 individuals in the control group and 6,517 in the intervention group. Results show that yoga had decreased total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglycerides, and very low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and increased high-density lipoprotein cholesterol among yoga practitioners. Authors conclude that yoga had a striking effect on balancing lipid profiles.
Abstract
OBJECTIVES Yoga is a mind-body stress-relieving exercise that increases mental and physical health, which may have a role in the improvement of metabolic disorders. The present study has reviewed the effect of yoga on lipid profiles as a systematic review and meta-analysis. METHODS We evaluated the available randomized controlled trials on the effects of yoga-based programs, and lipid profiles by searching PubMed/Medline, Scopus, Web of Science, and the Cochrane central register of control trials up to January 2022. Both fixed and random effect analyses were used to find the relationships. Subgroup analysis was performed based on the continent, duration of the included studies, gender, and health condition of participants to discover the sources of heterogeneity. RESULT Fifty-three studies were included in the current systematic review and meta-analysis with a total sample size of 13,191. There was a striking association between yoga and total cholesterol (-10.31 mg/dl; 95% CI: -14.16, -6.45; I 2 = 82.5%, P < 0.001), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (-8.64 mg/dl; 95% CI: -12.03, -5.25; I 2 = 75.0%, P < 0.001), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (1.98 mg/dl; 95% CI: 0.81, 3.14; I 2 = 91.6%, P < 0.001), triglycerides (-13.50 mg/dl; 95% CI: -20.09, -6.92; I 2 = 90.7%, P < 0.001) and very low-density lipoprotein (-3.94 mg/dl; 95%CI: -6.31, -1.56; I 2 = 72.2%, P < 0.001). CONCLUSION It seems yoga interventions had a substantial effect on lipid profiles, however, more qualified trials or cohort studies are needed to conclude exactly.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) accounts for 31% of all-cause mortality worldwide. Irregularities in the composition of intestinal microbial composition, genetic factors, nutrition, metabolic irregularities, and smoking are among the potential causes of CVD. Intestinal permeability and translocation of endotoxins and bacterial metabolites to systemic circulation may trigger an immune response and inflammation, which may increase the risk of CVD. Synthesis of bacterial metabolites such as trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) by choline-inducing gut bacteria and reduced consumption of dietary TMAO precursors may elevate the CVD risk. This review explores the latest research on the role of gut microbiota in the development of atherosclerosis and CVD, as well as potential strategies to prevent CVD by targeting TMAO-producing gut bacteria. Elevated levels of TMAO in the bloodstream can lead to the buildup of cholesterol and ultimately result in atherosclerosis. However, consuming probiotics and fibre-rich foods can help regulate gut bacteria, reduce inflammation, and improve lipid profiles, all of which contribute to better cardiovascular health. More future robust studies are required to examine the mechanistic insights and confirm whether TMAO can serve as a biomarker for preventing CVD through the therapeutic modulation of intestinal bacteria.
Abstract
In the last two decades, considerable interest has been shown in understanding the development of the gut microbiota and its internal and external effects on the intestine, as well as the risk factors for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) such as metabolic syndrome. The intestinal microbiota plays a pivotal role in human health and disease. Recent studies revealed that the gut microbiota can affect the host body. CVDs are a leading cause of morbidity and mortality, and patients favor death over chronic kidney disease. For the function of gut microbiota in the host, molecules have to penetrate the intestinal epithelium or the surface cells of the host. Gut microbiota can utilize trimethylamine, N-oxide, short-chain fatty acids, and primary and secondary bile acid pathways. By affecting these living cells, the gut microbiota can cause heart failure, atherosclerosis, hypertension, myocardial fibrosis, myocardial infarction, and coronary artery disease. Previous studies of the gut microbiota and its relation to stroke pathogenesis and its consequences can provide new therapeutic prospects. This review highlights the interplay between the microbiota and its metabolites and addresses related interventions for the treatment of CVDs.

α-Linolenic acid (ALA) is an omega-3 fatty acid found in seeds and nuts such as flaxseeds, chia seeds, and walnuts and in oils such as canola oil, soybean oil, flaxseed oil and walnut oil. It has been shown to reduce the risk of coronary heart disease and cardiovascular disease. This meta-analysis examined the results of various studies, including epidemiologic studies, randomized controlled trials, and systematic reviews, to evaluate the beneficial effects of ALA in improving cognitive function and reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease and coronary heart disease. The included studies showed a correlation between ALA intake and a decreased risk of cardiovascular disease and coronary heart disease, possibly due to ALA's anti-inflammatory properties, as well as its ability to reduce total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood pressure. The analysis also found that ALA intake may reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes and cognitive impairment. Healthcare professionals can leverage the findings of this analysis to educate individuals about the benefits of dietary ALA in improving cardiovascular and cognitive outcomes. However, further studies are necessary to establish definitive conclusions and determine therapeutic dosage.

Given the evidence of the health benefits of plant-based diets and long-chain n-3 (ω-3) fatty acids, there is keen interest in better understanding the role of α-linolenic acid (ALA), a plant-derived n-3 fatty acid, on cardiometabolic diseases and cognition. There is increasing evidence for ALA largely based on its major food sources (i.e., walnuts and flaxseed); however, this lags behind our understanding of long-chain n-3 fatty acids. Meta-analyses of observational studies have shown that increasing dietary ALA is associated with a 10% lower risk of total cardiovascular disease and a 20% reduced risk of fatal coronary heart disease. Three randomized controlled trials (RCTs) [AlphaOmega trial, Prevención con Dieta Mediterránea (PREDIMED) trial, and Lyon Diet Heart Study] all showed benefits of diets high in ALA on cardiovascular-related outcomes, but the AlphaOmega trial, designed to specifically evaluate ALA effects, only showed a trend for benefit. RCTs have shown that dietary ALA reduced total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood pressure, and epidemiologic studies and some trials also have shown an anti-inflammatory effect of ALA, which collectively account for, in part, the cardiovascular benefits of ALA. A meta-analysis reported a trend toward diabetes risk reduction with both dietary and biomarker ALA. For metabolic syndrome and obesity, the evidence for ALA benefits is inconclusive. The role of ALA in cognition is in the early stages but shows promising evidence of counteracting cognitive impairment. Much has been learned about the health benefits of ALA and with additional research we will be better positioned to make strong evidence-based dietary recommendations for the reduction of many chronic diseases.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a multi-system disease that not only affects the structure and function of the liver but also increases the incidence of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease (CVD), cerebrovascular disease, and chronic kidney disease. In 2020, experts reached a consensus to recommend a more appropriate term to more accurately and positively define fatty liver disease associated with metabolic disorders, namely, metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD). The aim of this study was to investigate the risk of CVD incidence or CVD mortality in patients diagnosed with MAFLD. This study is a meta-analysis of ten cohort studies. Results show that patients in the MAFLD group had a significantly increased relative risk of CVD or death from CVD during the follow-up compared with the control group. Authors conclude that even though there is a positive association between MAFLD and the risk of CVD or death from CVD, further studies are needed to demonstrate different effects of the newly defined MAFLD on CVD compared with previous NAFLD.
Abstract
BACKGROUND Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease [MAFLD, formerly known as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)] is one of the most important causes of liver disease worldwide, while cardiovascular disease (CVD) is still one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, and the two are closely related. This study aimed to investigate the risk of CVD incidence or CVD-related mortality (CVD mortality) in patients diagnosed with MAFLD under new concepts and new diagnostic criteria. METHODS We searched English databases PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library for relevant literature. The language was restricted to English. RESULTS By 22 January 2022, 556 published studies were obtained through preliminary retrieval, and 10 cohort studies were included in this study. All statistical analyses were performed using Review Manager 5.2 software. Compared with the control group, patients in the MAFLD group had a significantly higher relative risk of CVD incidence or CVD mortality during the follow-up, with an RR rate of 1.95 (95% CI 1.76-2.17, p < 0.01). The incidence of CVD in the MAFLD group was more than twice that in the control group (RR 2.26, 95% CI 2.00-2.54, p < 0.01). The mortality rate of CVD was 1.57 times higher than that in the control group (RR 1.57, 95% CI 1.42-1.72, p < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS Patients diagnosed with MAFLD alone had higher cardiovascular mortality than those diagnosed with NAFLD alone based on the available data.
